The Hungarian government has taken the initiative to require higher education institutions to review their education activities regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI). 

Following an amendment to the Act on Higher Education, Hungarian higher education institutions are now required to undertake a comprehensive review of their internal regulations. In particular, the study and examination rules of higher education systems on the use of AI are reviewed, with a deadline set for 1 September 2025.

This initiative would be an opportunity to review guidelines on the use of AI in academic settings. By establishing a guideline, AI tools and technologies will be integrated in a responsible and well-regulated manner. 

Beyond the regulatory review, higher education institutions may also benefit from evaluating their curricula and learning outcomes in terms of how to integrate the use of AI into teaching and learning activities. This could include introducing foundational AI courses, integrating AI applications into existing subjects, or providing ethical and technical training on AI usage. 

The Hungarian government's intention behind this initiative is to ensure that students are adequately prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the digital age. By fostering AI literacy and competency, higher education institutions may enhance students’ employability, ensuring that graduates can effectively navigate an increasingly AI-driven labour market.
