Areas of Study

According to the Regulation on Graduate Education and Training, the master’s program is carried out in two ways: thesis and non-thesis. Issues such as in which institute departments these programs will be carried out and how they will be carried out, and the transition between non-thesis and thesis master’s programs are regulated by the regulation issued by the senates. The master’s program with thesis consists of at least seven courses, a seminar course and thesis study, provided that it is not less than twenty-one credits in total. The duration of the master’s program with thesis is four semesters excluding the period of scientific preparation and the program is completed in maximum six semesters. The non-thesis master’s program consists of a total of 30 credits and not less than 60 ECTS, at least ten courses and a term project course. The completion period of the master’s program without thesis is at least two semesters and at most three semesters, excluding the time spent in scientific preparation.

Admission Requirements

In order to apply to graduate programs, candidates must have a bachelor’s degree and at least 55 Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) score in the score type of the program they apply for.

However, ALES score is not required for the applications of conservatory programs, programs of fine arts faculties that accept students only through special talent exams, and doctorate / proficiency in art, specialization in medicine, specialization in dentistry, specialization in veterinary medicine and specialization in pharmacy graduates. In addition, ALES score may not be a prerequisite for applications to non-thesis master’s programs; however, the base score is determined by the university senates.

The application of the candidates is evaluated according to the principles determined by the senate, considering at least 50% of the ALES score. Higher education institutions may admit students to master’s programs with only ALES score, or they may also take into consideration the undergraduate grade point average, written scientific evaluation and interview results in addition to ALES score.
